Moving to Canada

Canada, located in the northern part of North America, shares its southern border with the United States and its northwestern border with Alaska. Stretching from the Atlantic Ocean in the east to the Pacific Ocean in the west, and bordered by the Arctic Ocean to the north, Canada is the second largest country in the world by total area, after Russia, and the largest in North America.

Despite its vast size, Canada has a low population density, with just 4 people per square kilometer. It is home to more lakes than any other country and contains a significant portion of the world's freshwater.

As one of the world's wealthiest nations, Canada enjoys a high per-capita income and is a member of prestigious international groups such as the OECD and the Group of Eight (G8). It ranks among the top 10 trading nations globally and is known for its high economic freedom, surpassing the USA and many Western European countries.

Since the early 1990s, Canada’s economy has experienced rapid growth, characterized by low unemployment rates and significant government surpluses. The country’s economy, which closely mirrors the USA’s market-oriented system, has shifted from a predominantly rural base to a more industrial and urban focus. Today, the service sector dominates, employing about three-quarters of Canadians. However, Canada remains unique among developed nations due to the significance of its primary industries, especially logging and oil.

Canada is a leading net exporter of energy, with vast offshore natural gas deposits in Atlantic Canada and large oil resources in Alberta, including the significant Athabasca tar sands. The country also harnesses hydroelectric power extensively in regions like British Columbia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec, making it a leader in clean, renewable energy.

Agriculture plays a crucial role in Canada’s economy, with the Prairies being a major source of canola, wheat, and other grains. Additionally, Canada is a top producer of uranium and zinc and excels in other natural resources such as aluminum, gold, lead, and nickel. Many northern communities rely on nearby mining or timber resources for their economic livelihood. The manufacturing sector, concentrated in southern Ontario and Quebec, includes significant industries like automobiles and aeronautics.

Since 2001, Canada has avoided economic recessions and has shown exceptional economic performance within the G8. The federal government has consistently posted budgetary surpluses and reduced national debt over the past decade, contributing to one of the most dynamic economies globally.

Canada’s relaxed lifestyle, stable political and economic environment, excellent education and healthcare systems, multilingual population, and cultural tolerance make it a highly desirable place to live, work, invest, and raise a family.
