Malaysia

Malaysia boasts one of Asia’s most dynamic economies, thanks to ongoing industrial growth and political stability. Since gaining independence, it has joined the British Commonwealth and is an active member of the UN and APEC. As a founding member of ASEAN, Malaysia is deeply integrated into regional cooperation. Beyond its economic and political significance, the country is renowned for its stunning beaches, breathtaking landscapes, and lush rainforests, making it a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts and travelers alike.

Key Benefit

A 20-year, multiple entry visa allows you and your family to live, work, and conduct business in Malaysia. This visa essentially serves as a residence permit, giving you the freedom to enjoy all the opportunities Malaysia has to offer for two decades.

Acquire Malaysian Residence

The Government of Malaysia enables applicants and their families to live in the country through the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) Program or the Premium Visa Program (PVIP). In exchange for an investment into the country, successful applicants are granted a long-term multiple-entry visa.

The MM2H visa is a 10-year, multiple-entry visa available to applicants who are at least 35 years old. Both the main applicants and their spouses are required to spend at least 90 days each year in Malaysia, although children, parents, and parents-in-law are not subject to this requirement.

The PVIP visa is a 20-year, multiple-entry visa granted in five-year increments. It is available to individuals of any age, and those who hold this visa are allowed to work and run a business in Malaysia. Unlike the MM2H visa, PVIP holders do not need to live in Malaysia.

Benefits of Malaysian residence by investment

  • Enjoy a straightforward and efficient residence-by-investment program in Malaysia.

  • Obtain a 20-year residence visa, with the option to renew it for another 20 years.

  • There’s no age limit for the main applicant.

  • Live, work, and do business in Malaysia with ease.

  • You can include your spouse, parents, parents-in-law, and unmarried children under 21 years old.

  • There is no minimum stay requirement for maintaining your residency.

  • Experience Malaysia’s multicultural population and modern lifestyle.

  • Buy residential properties ranging from MYR 300,000 (around USD 70,000) to MYR 1 million (about USD 212,000), depending on the state.

  • Pay taxes only on income earned in Malaysia, with an extensive network of double tax agreements to avoid double taxation.

  • Malaysia is considered a safe country with low crime rates. Residents can enjoy peace of mind while living in a secure environment.

Requirements of the Premium Visa Program

To get Malaysian residence through the PVIP program, foreign nationals need to show proof of having offshore income of at least MYR 40,000 per month (around USD 8,500) or MYR 480,000 per year (about USD 100,000) when they submit their application.

Upon approval, successful applicants:

  • To qualify for the program, you need to invest MYR 1 million, which is around USD 212,000, into a local fixed deposit account. This investment must be kept in the account for the entire duration of your stay in Malaysia under the program.

Note: Applicants may withdraw up to MYR 500,000 (approximately USD 106,000) after the first year if they wish, for approved expenses relating to a house purchase, education for their children in Malaysia, or medical expenses.

  • Need to purchase medical health insurance if they are aged 60 or below

  • Must undergo a medical check-up in Malaysia

Procedures and time frame of Malaysian residence by investment

Upon receiving the initial approval for their MM2H or PVIP application, applicants are granted a conditional approval letter by the Malaysia Immigration Department. It is important to note that neither the MM2H visa nor the PVIP visa permits its holders to engage in employment in Malaysia. Furthermore, neither of these visas leads to permanent residency status.

Once the initial approval is granted, applicants are required to visit Malaysia to complete the remaining steps, which include opening a local bank account and meeting the medical requirements. Henley & Partners will provide assistance throughout this process to ensure a smooth transition.

After fulfilling these requirements, the final approval will be issued, and the applicant along with their family members will receive their long-term multiple-entry visas. The MM2H visa is valid for ten years, while the PVIP visa is valid for twenty years. The entire process, from initial application to receiving the full approval and long-term visa, typically takes between three to six months.

Both the MM2H and PVIP visas are initially valid for a five-year period, after which they are eligible for renewal.
