The right to live, work, and study in Spain, along with visa-free travel to the EU and the Schengen Area in Europe.

The Spain Residence by Investment Program

Spain is one of the most desirable global destinations and a popular investor choice. With its stunning natural beauty, picturesque beaches, diverse culture, and rich history, the country draws millions of visitors annually. For those looking to live in Spain, the Residence by Investment Program offers a streamlined path to residency. The Spanish government provides numerous visas for individuals making substantial, qualified investments that help boost the country's economy through foreign direct investment.

Through this program, individuals and their immediate family members can obtain temporary residency in Spain in under a month. After five years of continuous residence, and following general immigration requirements, investors can apply for permanent residency and eventually pursue Spanish citizenship.

Benefits of a Spanish Golden Visa

  • High standard of living

  • Option to include a spouse or unmarried partner, financially dependent children of any age (adult children must be full-time students), and financially dependent parents of the main applicant and/or their spouse who are 65 or older

  • Access to the country’s public healthcare and education systems

  • A lively EU nation known for its stunning landscapes

  • Opportunity to apply for Spanish citizenship after two years of effective residency for Sephardic Jews and their descendants, as well as citizens from Ibero-American countries, Andorra, Equatorial Guinea, Portugal, and the Philippines

  • Top-notch schools offering tuition in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Mandarin

Spain golden visa requirements

To qualify for the Spain Residence by Investment Program, a foreign individual must make one of the following investments in the country:

  • Purchase real estate worth at least EUR 500,000 (either one property or multiple properties).

  • Invest a minimum of EUR 1 million in Spanish financial institutions through investment funds, bank deposits, or shares in listed companies.

  • Invest at least EUR 2 million in government bonds.

Documentary proof of the investment is required as part of the application process.

Procedures and time frame of the Spain golden visa

To apply for the program, applicants must use the designated forms and include the necessary fees and supporting documents. Residence permits are typically granted after a 20-day review period and are initially valid for three years. They can be renewed for five years if the applicant maintains the required investment in Spain.

The application process consists of two stages:

  • In the first stage, applicants must apply for a Spanish residence visa in their home country, which permits them to live and work in Spain for one year.

  • In the second stage, applicants apply for a Spanish residence permit. Those who enter Spain on a regular tourist visa can apply for the residence permit directly, bypassing the first stage.

The residence permit covers the primary investor, their spouse or partner (including unmarried and same-sex partners), and all financially dependent children.

There is no minimum stay requirement to keep the residence status, but the initial residence permit application necessitates a visit to Spain.

Citizenship

Residents can apply for Spanish citizenship only after ten years of living in Spain. However, Sephardic Jews and citizens from Equatorial Guinea, Latin America, and the Philippines can apply after just two years of actual residence. Most foreign nationals face restrictions on holding dual citizenship.
