Tourism drives around 60% of the island’s GDP, primarily attracting visitors from Canada, Europe, and the USA. Despite recent economic challenges, the government has made notable strides with the National Economic and Social Transformation Plan and a debt restructuring initiative. Antigua’s dedication to bolstering its tourism industry is evident in the USD 45 million airport expansion project. This includes three passenger jet bridges, over two dozen check-in counters, and enhanced efficiency for passenger arrivals. The expansion will accommodate increased scheduled, charter, and inter-island flights, with direct flights to Antigua regularly available from London, New York, Miami, and Toronto.

The Eastern Caribbean dollar (ECD), pegged to the USD at a rate of 2.70, is Antigua’s currency. The nation is a member of several international organizations, including the British Commonwealth, CARICOM, the Organization of American States, and the United Nations. However, Antigua passport holders require a visa to enter the USA, as the country is not part of the USA Visa Waiver Program.
